WENDY WONG joins 15,000 screaming fans of the biggest boyband from Korea, for a night of high-energy music, complete with pyrotechnics
THE much-awaited concert from Super Junior finally came, and what an exhilarating and pulsating show it was for the 15,000 screaming fans. More than RM6 million had been spent on the stage, sound and lights, and all the props were brought in from Korea. The stage at the Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil was designed in such a way that the boys would have lots of opportunity to get close to and interact with their fans. The fans were highly charged from start to end, endlessly waving their pearl sapphire blue (the official colour for Super Junior) glowsticks. Some die-hard fans even camped outside the stadium the night before.

The guest artistes were Thomas & Jack and Iqwal. Thomas & Jack were accompanied by eight dancers, and you could have easily mistaken them for the main act. They did a good job entertaining the crowd and keeping up the energy. The 10-member Super Junior came onstage at 8pm, with each one in a different position on the stage. They opened the show with the fast numbers Thirsty, U, It’s You and She’s Dangerous, all in an ultra-energetic and highly synchronised dance choreography complete with pyrotechnics. Each member was introduced on the screen with cute names that tickled the crowd: The Dangerous Cinderella Heechul, The Living Work of Art Siwon, Hottest Baby Kyuhyun, The Bubble Boy Yesung, Loveable Blurness Ryeowook, Ultimate Sweetness Sungmin, Bejewelled Eunhyuk, Sexy Fishy Donghae, Cutie Pie Shindong and Fallen Angel Leeteuk. Some members had solos, some performed as sub-groups (for example, Super Junior K.R.Y. comprising Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung, and Super Junior M comprising Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Donghae, Siwon, Henry and Zhou Mi). The boys dazzled and fans just couldn’t get enough of them.

One delightful performance was when Super Junior performed Puff The Magic Dragon. Each member came out in a different character and acted out the story playfully while Kyuhyun sang.

And when they performed Shiny Star, each stood scattered around the stage with Leeteuk in the centre. Leeteuk became emotional at this point and cried. Then it was time to sing their big hit, Sorry Sorry, and the fans went wild. The boys came out dressed in white suits and did their familiar synchronised dance moves. Super Junior showed that they just wanted to have fun when they performed Rokkugo, Honey Jar, Pajama Party and Carnival. They even had water guns, happily aiming them at the fans. Throughout the night, the fans showered the boys with gifts such as soft toys, towels, artificial flowers and even a flower windmill. While they were performing Rokkugo, Heechul picked up the flower windmill and ran around the stage with it, much to the delight of the screaming fans.

At the end of the concert, Siwon said they were happy to perform in Malaysia and even gave a shoutout to fans who had come all the way from Taiwan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore. Super Junior performed a total of 35 songs, and from the response of the fans, they definitely conquered their hearts. Super Junior, The 2nd Asia Tour “Super Show 2” Live in Malaysia 2010 was organised by Redstar Presents and managed by Marctensia.

Two hours prior to the concert, the band held a press conference in which Leeteuk, the leader of the group and the oldest member, said the group is preparing for a new album and that Siwon will act in the Korean drama, Oh My Lady.
